"When God intends great mercy for His people, the first thing He does is to set them to praying."    --Matthew Henry

"From the day of Pentecost, there has been not one great spiritual awakening in any land which has not begun in a union of prayer, though only among two or three; no such outward, upward movement has continued after such prayer meetings have declined."    --A.T. Pierson

Why has God seemingly limited a move of His Spirit among us to the prayers of His children?

Can you think of scripture passages that support this assertion that prayer is an essential ingredient in revival?  (You may refer to your Scripture sheet.)

"Before there can be a vision of the possibilities of the hour there must be a vision of the need of the hour."      --In the Day of Thy Power   p. 115

"In a great measure it is true today that the walls of the city have been broken down, the church has lost her mark of separation, her defences are departed from her, and she is vulnerable to every attack of Satan."    --Ibid. p. 114

Why must we have a vision of the need before we can pray effectively?

When we think of the state of the Church, should we feel anger, judgmentalism, grief or compassion -- or all of these?

"An intercessor cannot expect to prevail unless willing to be the instrument, if God should require it, in the fulfillment of the prayer."  --Ibid. p. 120

"Is the reader concerned that no one else in the local church, the town, or the district seems burdened with the need of revival?  Does the situation seem beyond hope?  Give the Lord the channel of a thirsty soul, and there is no limit to what He may do. God is looking for a man, a woman, to stand in the gap; will you be that one?"   --Ibid. p. 122

Would you be willing to be used in an intercessory prayer ministry?

How do you think intercessory prayer differs from ordinary prayer?

Do you think God can use just one or two praying people to begin a revival?
