Prayer Concerns
April 2008

“Therefore we do not lose heart.  Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.  For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Recently my memory went back to the time when I joined the church as a youth.  Many years have passed since that time and there have been many joys and afflictions.  This scripture reminds us that this life is but a shadow of the one to come.  It is good to know that God is at work in us both in the joys and the difficulties.

As we enter into a new Spring season, we remember that we are resurrection people serving a risen Lord.

Prayer Requests and Praises:

General Conference is just a few short weeks away, April 23 – May 2.  Please continue your fervent prayers for the renewal groups as they make their final preparations to attend.  Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your prayers in behalf of all events that are being planned for General Conference.

Pray even more fervently than you have been doing for this most important event in the life of The United Methodist Church.  Much is at stake.  God knows and will execute His plans for this denomination.  Let’s pray we will discern His will and receive His guidance as we move toward General Conference.

  • Ask God to give us the strongest prayer team for General Conference 2008 we’ve ever had.
Pray that all of our plans will be in accordance with God’s plans and purposes.

  • Pray for success as we lift up the Name of Jesus, the Cross of Christ, the Word of God and the Power of the Holy Spirit at General Conference.

  • Ask God to provide the support team needed for successful impact at General Conference.

  • Pray for all members of the Renewal and Reform Coalition: RENEW; Good News; The Confessing Movement; UMAction; Transforming Congregations; Lifewatch.  Pray also for other renewal groups who will participate in General Conference activities.

  • Pray for a renewed and reformed denomination—whatever it takes!

If you are so inclined, join us in the Wesley Fast for General Conference 2008.  This fast begins after dinner on Thursday and continues through Friday afternoon.  Some include Thursday dinner in the fast, but that is your option.

In Christ,

Peg
